Last year Willard South was one of the first schools in the Willard district to start learning an important skill...computer programming! We started by letting our 3rd and 4th graders participate in the Hour of Code in computer lab, which is a world-wide movement to introduce students to coding. The need for programmers increases every year, however the number of students graduating college in this field is not increasing fast enough to fill the jobs. Willard South is starting now to plant that seed. We are again participating in the Hour of Code during Computer Science Week - Dec. 8-12, however THIS year we will start as young as 1st grade! As the CEO of Google said, "If you can create technology, you can change the world!" Watch this video to students from President Obama discussing the importance of computer programming and not just being a consumer - but a creator! 1st Grade - Learn to Code with Blockley2nd Grade - Learn to Code with Blockely3rd Grade - Use Blockley to program Angry Birds!4th Grade - Return to Blockley to program your own Flappy Bird game!
